Dr. Teresa D. Drummond Scholarship Program

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Delaware Chapter Scholarship Fund was established in 1997, and honors the legacy of Dr. Teresa D. Drummond, a scholar devoted to national and local public service. Dr. Drummond served as the founding vice president of our local chapter in partnership with Penelope Taylor, our founding president. Dr. Drummond was a graduate of Howard High School, the University of Delaware and Ohio State University where she was conferred a doctorate of philosophy. Since the chapter's inception, $37,300 has been granted to a range of recipients.

Scholarships are granted annually to high school seniors and matriculating students enrolled in technical, associate, and undergraduate degree programs. Non-traditional women, incarcerated women, women in recovery and mature women who have been accepted into a technical, undergraduate or graduate degree program are also eligible to apply.

In keeping with the mission of our organization, the Dr. Teresa D. Drummond Scholarship Program seeks to empower women and their families. It is our firm belief that education is a powerful self- empowerment, community building, and economic development tool.

Scholarship applications are available in February and award decisions are made no later than July of each year. Awards range up to 2,500 dependent upon available resources. Applicants are evaluated based on academic merit, financial need, written communication skills and community service

Scholarship Winners
During the 2003 and 2004 scholarship cycle, the following individuals were recipients of scholarships made possible by proceeds from the 2002 Gentleman's Cook-Off, NCBW, DE Chapter member assessments, corporate and public support.

ROCK THE VOTE IN 2012

It took 72 years to secure the right to vote for all American Women. Every vote does count and when we register and vote, we decide. Our objective is to educate, register and mobilize Delawareans in order to make a difference through public policy and voter empowerment. We communicate our efforts through meetings with community groups, sponsoring candidate's forums, and support of or opposition to legislation impacting women of color and the community.

We are a non-partisan organization and, therefore, we do not endorse any specific candidate or party. In our forums, we share information on the issues that we believe to be so important to registered voters to drive them to the polls. In partnership with the Multicultural Judges and Lawyers Section and the Martin Luther King Voter Registration initiative, we encourage residents to be aware of the issues that impact them and to exercise their right to vote. Please exercise your right to vote.

Vision. Initiative. Integrity. Accountability. Leadership. Service. Global Knowledge. Teamwork.
